| bar scenes and garden parties
This type of painting is like the abstracts; they come straight from my mind and hand onto the canvas. I’m not dependent on models or specific places. They fall into the ‘order out of chaos’ theme. The paintings are groups of people that fill the canvas, forty to fifty figures. The occasions are garden parties or tavern scenes painted straight from the top of my head, using my imagination and memory. I want these works to have painting quality that relies strictly on the limitations of what I know as a painter, all of the elements of composition involved with moods of the place and of the people.
Working in this style satisfies a need in me to paint in a way that the great painters of the past did. I love figure drawing and the challenge of composition.
